INTRODUCTIONGauteng Park & Ride

Gauteng Province is home to the two host cities of Johannesburg, with CocaCola Park as the Match Stadium, and Tshwane /Pretoria with Loftus Versveld as its Match Stadium.   In the region also is South Africa’smain airport  Oliver Reginald Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) and also Lanseria Airport to the north. See map for orientation. Gauteng is the transport hub for the 2009 FIFA Confederation Cup.

 

REGULAR PUBLIC TRANSPORT

There are regular rail, bus and minibus taxi services currently operating between Johannesburg and Pretoria.

A business express commuter rail service runs between Pretoria and Johannesburg every day during the week. This service provides luxury commuter travel that offers reduced transit times between the two cities. The train schedule for this service is listed in the table below.

Mini-bus Taxi

Mini-bus Taxi’s operate from 5h00 to19h00 everyday from different pick up and drop off points known as a “taxi rank” or a “taxi stop”.

Johannesburg and Pretoria have designated taxi ranks that transport passengers in between the two host cities.

Mini-bus Taxi’s operate on a strictly cash basis.

 

Metered Taxi

Metered taxis are available for conveying people on an ad hoc basis and charge for the distance travelled. These taxis are available at the main transport hubs, including OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA), Lanseria International Airport and will have ranking space close to precincts. The typical cost of a metered taxi between OR Tambo and City Centres is R450 (one way). Metered Taxi Call Centre: 0861 SHE SHA (0861 743 742).

Airport Public Shuttles

A public transport service will operate from ORTIA to the match stadiums and back on match days. This is part of the Gauteng Provinces Gauride  programme for FCC.

 

Fares and Payment

The service will be free for passengers with match tickets for that day.

 

Security and Orientation

24 hour security will be provided at the pick-up and drop-off which will be well lit, with marshals on site and orientation signage to help you find  your way.

Park and Ride Services

Gauteng is providing special match day park and ride services operating  from “Hubs” connecting the Gauteng host cities and main population centres on the province.

Park and Ride Hubs are identified venues where people can drive and park their cars and get "Gauride" services to stadiums (this for ticket holders only). Below is a list of identified public transport hubs:

 

Fares and Payment

All services will be free including parking and shuttle overlays for passengers with match tickets for that day. Usage of services will be managed through a coloured armband system.

 

Security and Orientation

24 hour security will be provided at all hubs for the duration of the tournament with minimal security services on non-match days to secure site facilities such as furniture and equipment.. Hubs will be well lit, with marshals on site and orientation signage.

Park and Ride from Tshwane & from Johannesburg South and East, to Johannesburg, Coca Cola/Ellis Park:


Spectators from Tshwane travelling to Coca Cola Park can catch a Park and Ride Service from Tshwane Events Centre west of the CBD.  If you are travelling for Johannesburg South and East then the Park and Ride venue at Dries Niemandt Park; Ekurhuleni may be more convenient.


Pretoria Main Station (located on the southern side of the Tshwane Central Business District at the intersection of Paul Kruger Street and Scheiding Street) is the main transport hub of the city for serving fans for the 2009 FCC. This is an intermodal hub, including trains, buses (local and intercity) and taxis (both minibus and metered).
