2009 FCC Tip:

Travelling close to the stadium by private vehicle is not allowed and vehicles without the appropriate accreditation will not be able to approach the host city stadiums on match days.


Event Signage Tip:

Volunteers will be on hand to guide spectators towards the appropriate parking locations, to assist in accessing the stadium precinct and provide directions inside the individual venues. Ask around.


Air Travel Tip:

The recommended time for arriving at the airport before boarding an internal flight during the period of the FCC is at least an hour. If travelling internationally you should allow at least 2 hours. Remember to also budget for extra time on to get to the airport.


Road Travel Tip:

Always have extra cash in hand for Tollgate fees, especially for inter-city travel by private or hired car between the host cities, can be settled either with cash (South African Rand) or by credit card.


Rail Travel Tip:

The system used for rail and bus transport services is a coupon ticket system purchased usually with cash (South African Rand).All taxis work on a strictly cash (South African Rand) basis.

  • Bear in mind that number South African roads are undergoing extensive upgrades – today these do often ad to journey times but will improve road conditions significantly by 2010 FIFA World CupTM.
  • When you are at the airport and need assistance just ask any of the airport staff wearing blue uniforms or approach any of the Confederation Cup volunteers identifiable in their colourful lime gear.
  • A private metered taxi cab is identifiable by an illuminated yellow ‘taxi’ sign on the top of the vehicle – always discuss your route destination and payment structure before starting your journey.
  • During the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup you can only access the stadium by private vehicle through the park & ride facility; and unless you are planning to go enjoy the soccer match try and stay away from the stadium precinct roads.
  • To find your way around peak traffic and avoid no-go zones you can get the latest route updates anytime by calling 082 152 and choose option 3 to assist you in planning your journey.
  • Remember that you need a valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle on any South African road, vehicles are driven on the left hand side of the road and vehicles are right hand drive.

 

SA Weather Tip:

South Africa generally has good weather. The FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 and the FIFA World Cup 2010 are played in the month of June. This is the “winter” season in South Africa and the weather varies from 10 degrees Celsius to 18 degrees Celsius. The weather can affect not only the tournament schedule but also you as a traveller and spectator.
